马斯克与比特币狂热者吵个不停，加密货币的价格随之跌跌不休。
当地时间周日，特斯拉CEO埃隆·马斯克（Elon Musk）在社交媒体上暗示：
“特斯拉可能会或者是已经卖出了其比特币持仓”。
一位推特用户向马斯克留言称：
“如果发现特斯拉已经抛售了剩余的比特币持仓，比特币人士（持有者）下个季度（季度财报公布后）肯定会扇自己一记耳光。”
马斯克用“确实（Indeed）”一词回复了这条推文。
受此影响，比特币加速下行，一度失守44000美元/枚。其余加密货币持续下行，瑞波币、莱特币、以太坊、狗狗币均有不同程度下跌。其中，以太坊已失守3500美元/枚，为5月8日以来首次。特斯拉没有置评马斯克周日的言论。
马斯克上周宣布特斯拉暂停接受比特币支付引发轩然大波，他当时还称特斯拉不会出售任何比特币持仓。对于马斯克的“叛变”，不少人士表示谴责。马斯克在社交平台上回击了多位用户。加密货币的价格随之跌跌不休。
SkyBridge Capital的创始人Anthony Scaramucci表示，虽然最近几周比特币表现挣扎，但是加密货币中仍然应当持有比特币。
他说，要说服投资者持有比特币仍然是几乎不可能的事，但他建议至少持有少量，因为比特币是唯一一个实现了“逃逸速度”的加密货币。
有网友针对马斯克稍早的推文提问称，“为什么不从头开始创建一种加密货币，可以满足你所有技术需求，并获得大量开发支持”，对此马斯克回应称：
“除非狗狗币实现不了。再创建一种（加密货币）是件很麻烦的事。”
他还称，交易量提高100倍和费用降低100倍意味着总收入保持不变。低费用和高交易量是成为“世界货币”所需要的。他周日还表示，狗狗币可将区块时间加快10倍，将区块大小增加10倍，并将费用降低100倍，从而可以轻而易举获胜。
据狗狗币开发人员尼克尔在采访中透露，他们从2019年起就一直在与马斯克合作，让这种加密货币成为比特币更便宜、更环保的替代品。据估计，狗狗币能源消耗已经只有比特币的7%。
尼克尔表示，自从马斯克2019年开始和开发者们交谈以来，他“鼓励他们提高交易吞吐量”，提供了“很多建议和输入”，并分享了他庞大的人脉。团队对马斯克的出现感到乐观，自2019年来马斯克一直与四名开发成员保有联系。马斯克也曾表示愿意为狗狗币的开发提供资金，但被团队婉拒，此外他们还拒绝了其他潜在投资者的提议。
