美国商务部也在上周末前表示，占美国经济活动2/3的消费者支出在2月份下降1.0%，原因是商品购买量大幅下降。值得关注的是，消费者支出数据在1月份反弹3.4%。美国个人收入在1月份激增10.1%后，暴跌7.1%。经济学家此前预计，2月份的消费者支出下降0.7%，收入将下降7.3%。
由于需求疲软，通货膨胀率有所下降，不包括挥发性食品和能源成分的个人消费支出(PCE)价格指数在1月份上涨0.2%后，再起涨0.1%。截至2月份的过去12个月里，PCE核心价格指数在1月份增长1.5%后，再起涨1.4%。PCE核心价格指数是美联储对其2%通胀目标(也就是具灵活性的平均水平)的首选通胀指标。
